I have always felt attracted to drawings. I believe every hand is different, so not one drawing will be the same as the other. It is also the easiest way to tell a visual story, a few strokes and scrawls can tell a million things. I try to incorporate hand made illustrations in many of my works because it feels organic, a way to leave a personal mark in the project.
This set of instructional illustrations were drawn for a small gyoza to go business I started during the pandemic.
The gyozas where sold frozen in bags, so that people could cook them at home, but they had a hard time knowing how to do it. That's why, inspired by japanese packaging and their illustrated directions I decided to do my own version for my product.
It had a great response from the consumers, so much so that people kept the instructions after.
Ponte Perro is a dog rescue organization located in Guadalajara, México. They reached out to me to work on the design of items they wanted to sell in order to fund-raise money for pending veterinary bills. We had many ideas but landed on doing three different illustrations to be screen printed on
t-shirts and tote bags. We also made key chains which were done with laser cut over acrilic. In total we raised around $25,000 pesos (1,250 USD) and they where able to continue rescuing more dogs.
I like to share with people, and one of the ways I do so is drawing them. They like to be percieved and I enjoy putting in the effort to make them something pretty. It's something that will last and they'll appreciate later. A little bit more of the results of feelings, imagination and admiration for what is around me.
